Thirty-Some Years in the Desert
Desert Discount Cleaners opened in 1993, when Gene and Alan Silberman took a chance on this valley. Jacob came on not long after — hired as a cleaner, eventually becoming their manager. His wife joined too, working as a presser. Together they raised their family here in the desert, dedicating decades to this business and to the customers who counted on it.
Gene and Alan built Desert Discount Cleaners on a simple belief: take care of people and their garments with honesty, and the business will take care of itself. Jacob lived that belief every day for over thirty years. When the time came, Gene and Alan made the deliberate choice to pass the business to him.
Gene said it best herself — the cleaners gets to "stay in the family."
Why We Do This Work
We've made it a point to keep dry cleaning affordable and accessible for everyone in the valley — not just for special occasions, but as a regular part of how people care for what they own.

The People Behind the Work
What happens in our plants takes real skill. Our team brings years of hands-on knowledge to every garment — knowing which fabrics need what treatment, how to handle a delicate piece, when patience matters more than speed. These are people who take pride in their craft, and it shows in what goes back out the door.
Jacob has built that team the same way Gene and Alan once invested in him — with trust, consistency, and respect for people who do careful work well.

Still Family. Still Here.
Jacob and his wife continue to run Desert Discount Cleaners today, with many of the same familiar faces that customers have known for years. Their children grew up around this place — it was part of how this family was built. Their daughter, after spending thirteen years on the East Coast gaining experience in business operations, has come back to the desert to be part of it again.
The way we do things hasn't changed. We still treat every garment like it matters — because to the person who owns it, it does.
